Best Playstation Car Racing Games

A lot of hard choices had to be made for this list. These rankings are partially just based on how many hours I've spent on each game. I feel more cool playing sim-racing games and try harder to be good at them, but I really enjoy playing simcade and arcade racers too. I've played just about ever racing game for PS4 and PS5. I don't play online, so my rankings are just based on the single player modes. I play with a controller and a Thrustmaster wheel.

This game is fun for a while. It's got a decent progression system in career mode and the races get pretty intense. I became interested in this game, because this is the only type of professional racing that happens in my hometown of Davenport, Iowa, as far as I know. The World of Outlaws have races at the Davenport Speedway. I've yet to go, but I think it would be a good time, as long as I have my ear muffs.

The main draw of this games is that you can drive, fly, and boat across the whole United States. The map is massive and I think this game has the biggest selection of cars of all these games, but all of them kind of feel the same. This is the most arcade style racing game on this list except for Sonic Racing.

This game probably got the most negative reviews of every game on this list, but I still like it! It was marketed as being a realistic sim, but ended up being very arcady, angering fans. The races are exciting, but the difficulty is very inconsistent. The progression system is very rewarding, but a bit confusing and I often don't understand the goal of each race. I have to pass 10 cars in less than a minute? I'm already in first place, you want me let them pass me and then pass them again?

This is the only game I could get my wife to play with me. I played this game before any of these other games on this list. I used to enjoy kart games a lot, but now they feel like baby games after playing sim-racing games.

Art of Rally is a very stylish rally racing game. After buying my racing wheel, I was a bit disappointed to find out this doesn't support wheels, but playing with a controller feels great. It's so sweet hitting the perfect drift around a corner. It's an interesting history lesson in Rallying as well.

I recently bought this because it was on sale for like $12. It's a stylish, cool game. I've gotten invested in my character and the story. I appreciate a racing game having an interesting story mode. It seems they attempted to make the physics a bit realistic, but it's still pretty easy and the cars almost never lose grip unless you're trying to drift.

This is a futuristic hovercraft racing game that is really cool and trippy. The racing is very fast and chaotic. It's a decent game, but it also has VR mode for the whole game which was very rare for the PSVR and that made this a must-have for PSVR owners. Playing this game in VR is like what I would guess is what it's like to be on acid while on a rollercoaster.

A lot of people complain about this game and I get it, but I've still had a good time with it. It's very arcady, but still has pretty satisfying physics. There's a lot of sliding around but you still end up facing forward most of the time and the action is quite thrilling!

10

I put a lot of hours into Project Cars 2. It's got a ton of variety in cars and tracks, including Rallycross. The physics feel realistic, but it's hard to get the settings right with both a controller and a racing wheel. I thought once I got a racing wheel, it would be easier to control the cars, but it wasn't.

This is the oldest game on the list, but still one of the best sims of the bunch. The career mode is really freakin hard and frustrating, but it's good fun to just play single race mode, because all the cars and tracks are available from the start and you don't need to mod the cars to be able to compete in the races. I'm not a huge fan of modding and tuning cars, because I don't have the patience. I just want to race a fast freakin car! This game has a bunch of hyper cars right at the get-go.

I haven't spent a ton of time on this game, but it is quite fun. A lot of people on reddit complain about the bugs, but they don't bother me much on PS5. According to a lot of people who claim to know about rally car physics, this is a pretty accurate sim. It's biggest selling point over the previous WRC games is the stages are longer than in any other rally game. I kind of prefer shorter stages, so that's not a big seller for me. For a PS5 game, the graphics just don't look that nice.

7

I've had a lot of fun playing WRC 9, 10 and Generations. I think 10 is the most entertaining out of all of them, because it has (what seem to be) pretty realistic physics and looks really nice on PS5. The PS5 Dualsense controller haptic feedback feels great. Generations is fun and seems to have even better physics than 10, but the bugs are hard to ignore sometimes.

I recently bought this game and have been spending more time on it, so it's moving up the list. It is a really great looking, cool game. For being an arcade racing game, the driving feels good. Haptics and feedback for the PS5 controller and the wheel both feel really good. I was driving boat with the controller and it really felt like I was on waves! It has relatively realistic physics compared to others in this genre and a lot of variety and cars, but the progression system is a bit wonky.

The first time I played F1 2020, I was like "What the hell? I can't even stay on the track, it's too dang fast!" That means it's realistic! Basically if it's really hard to stay on the track, it's a realistic game. Hardcore sim-racers would probably beg to differ though. I like watching real F1 races and love the Drive To Survive series on Netflix, so this game gets me that fix when I feel the need for some F1 pace speed.

4

In my opinion, this is the best looking racing game on PS5 and it's very enjoyable too. The racing physics are simcade, meaning you have to make a bit of an effort to stay on the road, but it's pretty forgiving if your tires lose grip. The AI drivers are pretty aggressive and will bump into you a lot, which is not realistic, but does make it pretty exciting. There's a good mix of real-life circuits, like Brands Hatch and Bathurst, and fictional circuits in real cities, like London and Chicago.

3

This the most realistic racing game on PS5. I've spent a lot of time playing this game thinking that if I get good at this, then maybe I can be a real racing driver someday. At this point, the only way that would be possible is if I become a billionaire and can buy my own racing team and make myself the team's driver. Someday!!!

I've really enjoyed playing both Dirt Rally games. Dirt Rally was the first realistic racing game I got because it had a VR mode for PSVR 1. I didn't understand yet what made a realistic racing game fun to play. It was such a rush flying down narrow dirt roads in VR and trying to avoid crashing into trees. This is what got me into rally racing and sent me onto a whole sim-racing game journey.

I've spent almost 200 hours on this between the PS4 and the PS5 versions. It's so addictive and the racing feels pretty realistic, but not too hard to keep control of the car like some other hard-core sims. The quest to collect as many cars as you can never gets old. Race, earn money, buy cars, repeat. The VR mode for PSVR 2 makes this hands down the best racing game for PS5. I spent a lot of time on Gran Turismo Sport as well, but this is kind of the same game, but better and with more stuff.
